Club - Famous Old Cholms

Phil Clive Roderick Tufnell

Affectionately known throughout the cricketing world as 'The Cat', Phil Tufnell has entertained many sporting crowds over the years. During recent times, Phil has been able to combine his cricketing expertise with his 'mischievous' and 'laddish' reputation and regularly enjoys the banter referring to his alleged misdemeanours.

As the overall winner of TV's "I'm a Celebrity - Get Me Out Of Here", Tuffers has now become known to an even wider audience.

With still a few years of cricket to be played, Phil is looking to bring success to his club, Middlesex, as well as adding to his successful England career, whilst at the same time building a reputation and career in the entertainment world.

During the past three or four years, Phil has gained a great deal of experience in perfecting his after dinner speaking, in particular a combination of speaking and Question & Answer sessions, to which Phil's personality is extremely well suited. He is always happy to give his honest, passionate, amusing and, if need be, controversial opinion on a number of topics, sport related or not.

Through his openness, Phil tends to endear himself to the audience, allowing them to relate to his past experiences, which always ensures a relaxing and very enjoyable evening.

Phil has gained a great deal of experience through his various work on television. It has included analytical punditry on Sky Sports and Channel 4, appearances on current affairs programmes, chat shows and quiz shows, ranging from A Question of Sport and Blankety Blank to TFI Friday and Soccer Am.

Ever popular as a studio guest or panellist, if the occasion is suitable, Phil will be happy to give his honest and sometimes controversial opinion on a number of topics, sport related or not.

Phil Tufnell, Middlesex 1986-2002:
Phil Tufnell was born at Hadley Wood, Hertfordshire in 1966 and attended schools in Highgate and Southgate before making his Middlesex debut in 1986 versus Lancashire at Old Trafford, Manchester. A slow left-arm spinner and right-handed tail end batsman, he soon established himself as an ideal replacement 'spin twin' for John Emburey after the retirement of Phil Edmonds in 1987. He has taken over 550 first-class wickets, with a best return of 8 for 29 versus Glamorgan at Cardiff in 1993 and in Tests of 7 for 47 versus New Zealand at Christchurch in 1992/93. He has scored over 1000 runs with a top score of 37 versus Yorkshire and also versus Leicestershire both achieved at Lord's in 1990. He was awarded his county cap in 1990 and to-date his best season came in 1991 when he took 88 wickets. He has represented England in 20 Tests since making his debut versus Australia at Brisbane in 1990/91 and he has now taken 60 wickets. He celebrated his benefit season with the club in 1999 and although being called back for the odd Test by England managed to achieve his 1,000th wicket for Middlesex during the 2001 season.
